AlumDeck

Connect · Alumni directory

A directory where each member chooses what shows.

A members-only directory where every member decides what classmates can see. Email and phone start hidden, and nobody gets an email address without saying yes first.

  • 4fields the search box covers
  • 10fields each member can hide
  • 24members to a page of results
  • 1,000characters in a contact request

How it works

Private by default, findable when it counts.

What a member sees, what they control, and how they reach each other.

Search

Search the way people remember each other

Type a name, a city, a job title or an employer. Narrow it to one class year, or tick "mentors only". Results come 24 to a page, newest class first, then by name.

  • Free text over name, city, profession and employer
  • An exact class-year filter and a mentors-only box
  • Only active members who chose to be listed appear

Privacy

Ten switches, set by the member

Each member chooses, field by field, whether signed-in members can see it: email, phone, city, profession, employer, four social links and the photo. There is no public setting, because there is no public directory.

  • Two states per field: members or hidden
  • Email and phone start hidden for everyone
  • One switch takes a member out of the directory

Contact

No inbox full of strangers

There is no member-to-member messaging and no printed email address. To reach someone, a member sends a short request and the other person accepts or declines. Only on accept do both see each other's email and phone.

  • One open request between any two members
  • The reason is checked: a job request needs a real job post
  • The committee can see requests and remove abuse

Profile card

A profile that respects the switches

Open a result to see the member's card: photo or initials, class year, member number, a mentor badge, the bio, and only the fields they chose to show. A member who left the directory simply is not there.

  • Initials drawn on your server, not by an avatar service
  • Photos up to 4 MB in jpg, png or webp
  • Profiles need a signed-in member; search engines never see them

Who controls what

The member owns the profile, the committee owns the facts.

A member can change almost everything about themselves, but not the things a register depends on.

Not yet

What the directory does not do yet.

Where an item is planned, the tag names the release on the public roadmap. Where there is no tag, it is not planned.

  • Hidden city, profession and employer are not shown, but still match a search Planned: release 1.1
  • Search by country, industry or skills, or on a map Planned: release 1.5
  • Custom profile fields Planned: release 1.5
  • A public directory or public profiles
  • More than one class year per member (one leaving year, from 1940)
  • Resizing photos: they are served at the size they were uploaded

FAQ

Questions committees ask

Can the public see our alumni directory?

No. The directory only answers a signed-in, active member, and only lists members who are active and chose to be listed. There is no public view, no shareable link and no search engine indexing.

What exactly can a member hide?

Ten fields: email, phone, city, profession, employer, LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, X and their photo. Each is visible to members or hidden. Email and phone start hidden. Name, class year, member number and bio always show, so the way to hide a bio is to leave it empty.

Does hiding a field stop people finding me by it?

Not yet, for three fields. A hidden city, profession or employer is never printed, but typing it into the search box still finds the member. Making hidden fields unsearchable is planned for release 1.1.

How does one member contact another?

With a contact request the other person has to accept. The request carries a message of up to 1,000 characters and a reason, and the reason is checked: a job request needs a real job post by that member. Only on accept do both see each other's email and phone.

Can we load the members we already have?

Yes. A four-step wizard takes a CSV, maps about 22 columns, runs a dry run and then commits in batches of 200. Imported members start out of the directory until they choose to be listed.

Imported members are not emailed an invitation yet: they sign in with "forgotten password". A bulk invitation is planned for release 1.1.

Are member photos sent to any outside service?

No. A member without a photo gets their initials, drawn on your own server. The directory never calls an avatar service, so nothing about your members leaves your hosting when someone browses it.

Look someone up as a member.

The demo has 130 sample members at Riverside College. Sign in as a member and search by city, job or class year.
