AlumDeck

Licence terms · updated 25 September 2026

The AlumDeck licence, in plain English.

This is the whole licence. It is short on purpose: a licence you cannot read is a licence you cannot check. Buying AlumDeck means you accept it, together with the terms of sale.

What you are buying

A licence to install and run AlumDeck, the self-hosted alumni association software sold by Cerevonix FZ-LLC ("we"). It costs $49 a year and renews every year until you cancel. You are buying the right to use the software, not the copyright in it, which stays with us.

Each licence year starts on the day you pay, and it includes every new version we release during that year and email support. The terms of sale cover the purchase itself: price, tax, renewal, cancelling and the money-back guarantee.

One live site, and one staging copy

One licence covers one live AlumDeck site: one installation, at one web address, for one institution or association. A second site, including one you set up for a client, needs its own licence. There is no limit on how many licences you may buy.

You may also keep one private staging copy of that same site, to rehearse an update or test a change. Keep it closed to the public and to search engines, especially once it holds real member data. The installer registers one address per key, so make the staging copy by copying the live site's files and database rather than running the installer a second time. Today the licence server holds one active address per key, so on a copy running at a second address the admin and member sign-ins stay paused while the live site holds the key; public pages still show. A proper staging slot is planned.

You may move the live site to a new address or host whenever you like. Reinstalling at the same address always works. For a new address, ask us through the contact form to release the old one, or wait: an address that has not checked in for 30 days is released automatically.

No limits on people

There is no limit on members, member accounts, staff, administrators, page views or storage, and no per-record charge. Your hosting is the only practical limit.

You get the source code

AlumDeck is supplied as readable PHP, and you may change it for your own site. The files that check the licence are ordinary readable PHP too; this licence asks you to leave them alone rather than stopping you technically.

If you change the code, keep a note of what you changed, because an update replaces the application files. An update never touches your configuration, your database or your uploads.

What you may not do

  • Resell, sublicense, rent, lend or give away AlumDeck, in whole or in part.
  • Publish the source code, or share it beyond the people working on your installation.
  • Sell a modified version, or build a competing product from the code.
  • Use one licence for more than one live site, or for more than one institution or association.
  • Offer AlumDeck under your own name as a product or service. You may install and look after it for a client, on a licence bought for that client's site.
  • Share your licence key, or change the licence check to avoid paying.

Running an alumni site for your own institution, or for a client with their own licence, is the intended use. Building a business on the code itself is not.

Updates and support

While your licence is current you can download every new version we release, and get email support from the people who build AlumDeck, through the contact form, with a reply within one working day, Monday to Friday. Updates are never pushed to your server: you choose when to apply them.

Support means answering questions and helping you fix problems in AlumDeck itself. It does not include signing in to your server, custom development, design work, moving records from another platform, or faults in your hosting. The support page draws the line in detail.

Renewal and cancelling

The licence renews automatically each year at $49 until you cancel. You can cancel at any time through the contact form, or by replying to any email about your licence, and we confirm it by email. You keep everything you have already paid for: updates and support run to the end of the paid year, and the software keeps running after it.

If the licence lapses

Your right to keep the public site you built online is not taken away. Public pages keep serving and your data stays in your own database whether or not the licence is current. What a current licence buys is the right to sign in and administer the site, and to receive updates and support.

When a licence lapses there are at least 21 days of grace, with a banner on every admin page. After that the admin panel and the member area pause, including their sign-in forms, until you renew. Signing out always works. Renewing restores everything within the hour, and nothing is deleted at any point.

Money back

Every payment, the first and each renewal, has a 14-day money-back guarantee, for any reason. How to claim it is in the terms of sale.

When a payment is refunded, the licence for that period ends and you should remove AlumDeck from your server. We withdraw the key: it will not install again, and sign-in on an installed site pauses after the usual 21 days.

What we do not promise

AlumDeck is supplied as it is. We do not promise that it is free of faults, that it suits a particular purpose, or that it will run without interruption on hosting we do not control. It has not had an independent security audit.

Self-hosting means the server is yours to keep patched and secure. AlumDeck makes its own nightly backups once the cron line is in place and tests them weekly, but fetching a backup and restoring it are your jobs. Our liability is limited as the terms of sale set out.

If these terms change

A change applies from your next renewal, never to a year you have already paid for, and the date at the top of this page changes with it. If a change is one you would not accept, cancel before the renewal and the money-back guarantee still applies to that renewal.

Questions

Questions about the licence

Can we move AlumDeck to a new host?

Yes, whenever you like. Reinstalling on the same address always works. For a new address, ask us through the contact form to release the old one, or wait: an address that has not checked in for 30 days is released automatically.

Can we run a test copy?

Yes, one private staging copy of your live site, closed to the public and to search engines. Make it by copying the live site's files and database, because the installer registers one address per key. Today the licence server holds one active address per key, so on a copy running at a second address the admin and member sign-ins stay paused while the live site holds the key; public pages still show. A proper staging slot is planned.

Can an agency install AlumDeck for clients?

Yes, with one licence for each client site. You may install it, brand it and look after it for them; you may not sell it under your own name or run several organisations from one licence.

Is there a limit on members or admins?

No. There is no cap on members, staff, administrators, page views or storage anywhere in the software, and no per-record charge.
